Jack Northrop established his aircraft company in Hawthorne in 1939, and it quickly became one of California's largest defense contractors. During World War II, Northrop ranked among the top 100 U.S. corporations by military contract value. The company produced the P-61 Black Widow, a twin-engine night fighter that saw significant action in both the Pacific and European theaters. Northrop's Hawthorne facility became known for pushing the boundaries of aircraft design, and the company remained headquartered there for decades.

After World War II, the aerospace industry in Hawthorne continued to evolve. Northrop's facilities were later used to produce fuselage sections for large commercial aircraft including the Boeing 747 and 787. Today, aerospace and space technology companies continue to operate from Hawthorne, with the city serving as a hub for engineers and skilled technicians working on advanced flight systems. The aerospace presence draws people from across Los Angeles County who commute to work in the city's manufacturing and technology sectors.

A community built around aerospace and engineering work means many Hawthorne families work in jobs where steady income is essential. Whether someone is designing components, managing operations, or working on the factory floor, the people in these households understand the importance of planning for the years ahead. That is what term life insurance does: it protects the dependents and the financial commitments of people whose work matters to their industry and their families.
